Release 2.0 considers both the Utopian and the Dystopian possibilities of what could happen to the homegrown Indian IT industry if they don't invest the money earned from labour arbitrage in innovating and preparing for the future, but the outcome isn't dystopian.
That said, it does paint a very grim picture of the possibilities, reflecting on the demise of the Indian Textile Industry that did not innovate in the face of competition from China and went from a thriving industry to a defunct one with mill land being sold off to Builders. Remember Release 2.0 was published in 2007 and I started writing it in 2005. Anybody who has seen Lower Parel and Elphinstone Road today in all their steel and glass arrogance may not know that at one time, these were thriving hotbeds of the Indian Textile Industry.
Prophet of Doom? Hmmmmm ... maybe :-|
